Black Christmas 1974
Familiar environment; the cozy furniture to the crackling of the wood from the fireplace and the Christmas decorations all accumulate into the cold dreary unfamiliar presence that reinforces silent dread instead of the silent peacefulness. The silhouetted figure with no real motive or backstory takes a stab as the phone keeps ringing and ringing, into the silent but holy night as the credits roll over its eerie cold breeze into the late night hours of the day.

Dracula 2000 2000
Definitely a product of its time since it’s called Dracula 2000 and it literally came out in 2000. Sure, the cast are attractive but the characters are so incredibly one-dimensional and they have no real personalities. Dracula himself doesn’t get enough screen time, he’s just guest starring in his own film. But I’ll always defend this type of angsty y2k soundtracks mixed with frantic editing but it’s done way better in Queen of the Damned which came two years after this…

As Above, So Below 2014
How was this critically panned when it released back in 2014? It has the claustrophobic atmosphere like The Descent and the found footage horror of the likes of last years The Outwaters. It ultimately succeeds in being scary, delving further down the horrors of past trauma and ancient evil entities. A 28% on Rotten Tomatoes is almost blasphemy if you ask me.
