    Spider-Man: No Way Home

    ★★★★★

Feel good trilogy conclusion that keeps the spirit and honesty alive with multiple emotional impacts that lovingly pull from everything in cinematic Spider-Man’s past up to this point. Probably the best superhero movie to demonstrate how the greatest VFX and action sequences feel empty without being grounded in real heart.

  • Piran-Pirano

    Piran-Pirano

    ★★★½

Slovene drama about two young men and a young woman whose paths crossed during World War II in Piran. It is competently made and skillfully shot, but nothing, in particular, stands out to me except the fact it was filmed in Piran. A small charming Adriatic town where I used to spend every summer of my childhood and most summers of my adult life up to 2011 when I moved from Europe to South America.

    Living so far away and…

  • Don't Look Up

    Don't Look Up

    ★★★★

In the spirit of outright prophetic Idiocracy (2006) this setup feels a completely accurate reflection of the present times and because of that loses some of its satiric comedy edge. I really don’t see real-life events of this scenario play out considerably differently than depicted in this movie. Serious veteran dramatic actors (DiCaprio, Lawrence, Streep, Blanchett) in prominent roles make everything look even more ridiculous. I loved the execution but made me worried about our future in a way I have not allowed myself before. Who knows WTF is going to happen!

P.S. The post-credit scenes are worth the wait.

  • Death to 2021

    Death to 2021

    ★★½

Sequel to Death to 2020 is a bit more global-centric, but otherwise slightly less funny. I guess I'm exhausted and the disaster that is everyday life is not as funny as it used to be no matter how hard the writers try. The real-life "joke" is lasting way too long now and the trilogy would be pointless at this time next year. I'd prefer a new season of the Black Mirror.

    The Matrix Resurrections

    ★★★★

Surprisingly self-aware and self-referential as well as anti-corporate with a spoonful of fan service. And yet enjoyable because treats the legacy characters with respect. They have not been pushed aside like in the new Star Wars trilogy.

The story makes you think but it’s far from as thought-provoking as the original. The world has changed and our minds can’t be blown the same way again. Love remains a powerful central emotion that keeps the word go around being real or…

    Star Trek: First Contact

    ★★★★½

    The Saint

Val Kilmer nastopa v vlogi Simona Templerja, prekaljenega tatu z mračno preteklostjo.

My rating would probably be a bit higher if I would have not seen Zack’s version first. I expected a much worse overall experience, which in fact is just lighter in tone and middle-of-the-road version sans creative and most obviously artistic input. The end battle in this version representing the most significant difference has a considerably lesser impact as goes for the whole movie. Comparing it to the director’s original vision it becomes obvious the original ambition and scope could not be abridged into 2h experience.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Surprisingly managed to pull on my heartstrings despite all the silliness and weird jokes. Also brought back some happy memories of early childhood watching the Eurovision contest with my family and friends. The funny thing is that the real songs are even more crazy and full of pathos than the ones cleverly presented in this movie.

At the end of the day, it is a well-intended and well-made silly movie about a silly contest that only Europeans that grew up…

  • The Limey

    The Limey

    ★★★½

Interesting approach to the revenge crime drama highlighted by inventive unconventional editing and Terrence Stamp’s uncompromisingly British performance underlined with heavy Cockney accent.

This is director Soderbergh’s early low-budget guerrilla-style films with well-known and experienced actors.

A story about a fresh out of prison father coming to investigate the sudden death of his estranged daughter is very straightforward but told in a quite unusual way through the back and forward flashes. 20 years ago must have felt considerably more original and inventive although it kept the strangeness and a memorable performance of the titular character.
