It's so difficult to put yourself back in 1982 when this premiered. I don't mean to say that the world has changed so much that the film loses merit; but our perspectives on how nature is portrayed on screen is immeasurably different now. Wildlife documentaries, channels dedicated to nature, countless incredible videos and professional footage uploaded online every day. We're so spoiled with what we get to see of the world, good or bad or in between.
In other words, this must have been so revelatory at its time, that it's nearly impossible to account for how we take films like this for granted now. What an experience it must have been to have watched this more than 35 years ago.
