Valeofruin’s review published on Letterboxd:
Ever watch a movie with visual composition so flawless it exists in a class of its own? Where there are few movies you can think of that come even remotely close to being as beautiful? For 3 hours? Without a single frame falling anywhere short of perfection?
If not then you need to see Yi Yi.
That said.. as with all Yang and Kar Wai films I found this to be exceptionally boring. Unlike other such Chinese masterpieces like “Brighter Summers Day” or “In the Mood for Love” I found the boredom of Yi Yi not so bad that I was falling asleep. Therefore it can hold its 5/5 for technical merit on my list.
