Varghese Eapen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Bette Midler gives the most powerful performance( Barbara Streisand and Lady Gaga don't even come close) by any female actor in the last 50 years whilst belting out songs on stage in movies. Oozing tremendous sex appeal, the fragile vulnerability broke my heart to smithereens. I am shocked she lost out the Best Actress Oscar to Sally Field for Norma Rae. Shot stunningly by legendary cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond ( McCabe and Mrs Miller, The Deer Hunter, Close Encounters of the Third Kind), the emotions deliver a sucker punch for the ages.
