Tais Nøhr Larsen’s review published on Letterboxd:
What a stellar, stellar performance from Phoenix!
Now that we got that out of the way: why did this have to be about Joker? The film doesn't utilize anything from the batman universe except the names. If this was just a movie about a guy decending into madness I think I would've liked it a lot better.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind new takes on comic universes but this does nothing with said universe other than cash in on a known character.
Also I think most of this has been done before and there were nothing really interesting in this other than Phoenix's sublime portrait of a madman
