An impeccable masterpiece in every aspect - the music, meticulous production, stunning sets, captivating costumes, breathtaking cinematography, and above all, the stellar performances. This film is a mesmerising portrayal of a seemingly jovial narrative depicting the ascent of a young composer in 18th century Vienna. However, it ingeniously centers on Antonio Salieri's journey, gradually succumbing to madness as he grapples with what appears to be God's musical manifestation embodied in the guise of a naive prodigy from Salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus…
I first watched this when I was 16, in GCSE Music. I then went 13 years until I watched it again a couple of weeks ago. I have since watched it 4 more times. This truly is an absolute masterpiece. Potentially, objectively, the best film that has ever been made. The music, acting and production is just insane. A masterclass in filmmaking.
It holds a firm rank of 3rd on my top 150, and will take something incredibly special to change that.
Where has this been hiding all of my life (ages 21-29)???
This film is incredible. The cinematography is like dark Wes Anderson (imagine if Team Rocket captured Wes Anderson...), the score is dark and foreboding, and Ethan Hawke acts his arse off. Oscar winning performance if I've ever seen one. The dark themes portrayed in this film are never glossed over. You feel the darkness, in both the story and Ethan Hawkes character.
I think this could get a 5…
52 week challenge, 2024.
Week 7: A relationship comedy.
This is my first 2024 release, and despite it's mediocre and underwhelming rating, I quite enjoyed it. It's like The Devil Wears Prada if you ordered it from Wish. Same sort of thing, not as good, but does the job.
I'm a bit disappointed, I've heard a lot of good stuff about this film but I can't say I really enjoyed much of it. I don't know if I'm sure that I can necessarily say exactly what I didn't like, it just didn't click. I wasn't ever bored, but I also just wasn't entertained by what was happening. Maybe I'll give it another go in the future.
