Absolutely fascinating and beautifully photographed documentary -- so good I watched it twice in a week. This film travels the entire globe and somehow manages to unite all of humanity by focusing on how volcanoes affect all of us in some essential way. As is the norm with Herzog's documentaries, they are singular, unique, profound, exquisite, and engaging from the first frame to the last. Herzog is our greatest living documentarian who has not gotten nearly enough credit for his craft, and his skill at subtly examining all angles of his chosen subject matter. When this film was over, I was both humbled and astonished.
