A masterpiece of contradictions and inversions. Every character is shown to be or to have something other than what we first know about them. No single frame of this film appears wildly original in a modular or granular way, and yet I don't know that I've seen another movie like it: hilarious absurdist dread-comedy about the endless reconfigurations of detente constituting social life; morally serious but not moralistic; about traumas but not beholden to traumas; pulpy and thick with plotting, yet also shaggy, yet also austere. Huppert is on top of her game.
