    Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

This is probably the greatest example in cinema history of bad casting derailing a film. Every single other element is in place. This is an incredibly well directed film, the editing is brilliant, the production design and effects are perfect, the writing is tops - this should be one of my favourite films of all time.

I think this is the best film ever made.

    Is Anybody There?

Michael Caine has never been the greatest actor and has generally been just more of a well-used presence in his better films. As he enters the twilight of his years, his performances have been getting far more interesting and he seems bent on exploring his vulnerability and fragility in quite a brave way.

The performances throughout this film are just fantastic and Caine really sparkles as a bitter old magician descending into Alzheimers whilst fostering a genuine friendship with a young death-obsessed boy who lives in the nursing home.

It's a small, simple, emotionally raw film and I think more people should see it.
