    Miller's Crossing

Miller's Crossing is a solid movie in just about any regard. The Coen brothers master an interesting tone. I really enjoy the dark sense of humor that this movie has at times. I actually laughed a few times, but I was still able to take the movie seriously. Albert Finney's viciously over the top shootout scene should feel out of place in a film like this, but the Coens are able to pull the reigns in and make the whole…

    Rocky V

Rocky V is the only entry in the franchise that I never got around to seeing, mostly because I don't know if I've ever heard anything good about it. I honestly don't have a problem with this movie at all. Its far from insultingly bad and I may even like it a bit more than Rocky IV.

Rocky V brings back John G. Avildsen, the director of the first movie after Sylvester Stallone directed 2, 3 and 4. I'd assume…

    Another 48 Hrs.

Another 48 Hrs. reunites Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte with director Walter Hill for a sequel to the original movie from 1982. During the 8 year gap between movies several buddy cop franchises that were influenced by 48 Hrs. emerged. This sequel mostly just retreads the first movie and tries to re-create several moments from the first.

Eddie Murphy's career skyrocketed after 48 Hrs. and now he's definitely the star of the show. Although, like many sequels at the time…

    Jacob's Ladder

Psychological dramas are usually not exactly my cup of tea. Jacob's Ladder is a good example of one that has surely been a heavy influence on some films that have come out after. Its just that I find films like this only really impress me in fragments, or I'm just not smart enough to watch them.

Adrian Lyne's direction definitely makes some interesting choices. I appreciated that the cinematography felt a lot like a 70s movie since that's where the…

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The Rise of Skywalker worked for me after one viewing, but its seems very likely that it will not work for everybody. There is a lot to unpack in this movie. I go to Star Wars movies for the big moments and this film definitely delivered them. I didn't necessary find it to be stuffed with nostalgia like The Force Awakens, but there is fan service aplenty, and that's cool with me.

The story is definitely a bit all over…

    Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame is exactly what a MCU fan wants to see. It’s dripping with fan service and huge moments. I never knew what surprise was coming around the corner.

I would say that the film has plot that is a bit more difficult than Infinity War was, but with a shortened (but still very large) cast they were able to build on the characters a bit more. In a lot of ways it’s a post-apocalyptic movie, and the aftershocks of…
