    Jaws

    ★★★★½

I was able to watch Jaws at a drive-in theater, which is the first time I've ever been able to see it on the big screen. Plus, it's been a few years since I've seen it. I was unfamiliar enough with it again that I got some pretty good scares during some moments. Jaws is still legitimately horrifying and brutal at times.

Jaws gets off to a great start with an awesome opening scene and it never really lets up…

    Oppenheimer

    ★★★★½

I went into Oppenheimer having a good idea of what to expect and I thought it was fantastic. Nolan's films are often so ambitious that he never really holds the audience's hand through a film. This film is so engaging that even if there were some stretches that I struggled with the plot I was still very locked in. I'd imagine this is the type of film that will only improve with repeat viewings. I'm eagerly awaiting a second watch.…

    John Wick: Chapter 4

    ★★★★

The John Wick world seems to grow significantly larger with each entry in the series. Even though the core of the franchise is really pretty simple I was a little worried about watching this movie without revisiting the first 3 movies first but it turns out I was safe without doing that. I do have to go back someday though.

Chapter 4 feels quite episodic as John has to survive several trials before he's able to complete his ultimate goal.…

    Ticket to Paradise

    ★★½

George Clooney and Julia Roberts went on vacation and shot a romantic comedy. This seems like a movie that Adam Sandler would do with Drew Barrymore or Jennifer Aniston. Ticket to Paradise isn't really very well written or funny, but its admittedly fun to watch two high profile movie stars be their movie star selves.

The movie doesn't overstay its welcome. There are plenty of really nice locations. It's a shame the dialogue wasn't a little better because Roberts and…

    The Devil's Own

    ★★

I was amazed to find out that Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford did a movie together and I had never heard of it. Then I watched The Devil's Own and I understand why. This movie is instantly forgettable.

The story is interesting enough on paper, but the execution results in a pretty boring movie. Pitt and Ford spend a decent amount of time on screen together, but their moments together don't really live up to the hype. Pitt's corny Irish…

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

    ★★★★

The Rise of Skywalker worked for me after one viewing, but its seems very likely that it will not work for everybody. There is a lot to unpack in this movie. I go to Star Wars movies for the big moments and this film definitely delivered them. I didn't necessary find it to be stuffed with nostalgia like The Force Awakens, but there is fan service aplenty, and that's cool with me.

The story is definitely a bit all over…
