BlacKkKlansman

BlacKkKlansman ★★★★

Fairly light on plot, some of which is even entirely made up. Yet this lands so strongly, often hitting the angry notes of urgency that all of Spike’s best crowdpleasing pictures do. John David Washington emerges from the whole thing as the MVP, with Driver as the movie’s major supporting force. They work in tandem to sell this as accessible and infectiously entertaining as anything else I’ve seen this summer, while underneath it all the politics at play are both seering and relevant in equal measure.
