A metaphor about the harms of technology told in an apocalyptic narrative, The Mitchells vs. The Machines is a well-animated film with a very expressive and unique art style.
The family drama and the involvement machine uprising sort of clashes together and may come out messy at certain parts. It's often hilarious but sometimes the comedy is overdone (in my opinion). However, if you set aside its flaws, it's a very fun family flick.
The father-daughter relationship is the main highlight of the story but also delivers a relevant message in terms of our current society that while technology is beneficial in connecting the family closer, it also had the potential to drive them further away from each other. There's a bunch of noticeable film references as well.
Katie truly reminds me of myself. A weird guy who finds comfort in movies.
