I keep meaning to watch more Mike Leigh films.. still gotta get around to it. This was a good reminder why. Kind of cartoony but still very real feeling characters, with a subtle gut punch at the end.
Skipping through my post queue to write this.
Just god awful. You can't watch this and be genuinely convinced that the powers that be at Disney actually want to make a good movie. I don't remember the last time I felt so insulted. The closest equivalent I can think of is WRECK IT RALPH 2 (heyo at least they've been consistent).
This is why I have so few qualms with something like ONWARD, despite it feeling formulaic or story artist-y,…
I was apprehensive to watch this again, as I had kind of held it up to be "the" film that I look up to.
On rewatching movies, people mention plot, but I think just as spoiled in a re-visit are shots, or reveals, or tricks. This movie in particular has a lot of those, that when you see for the first time, are really amazing. The reflections, or slow pans, or sound bridges are all really satisfying.
It still feels very human, and gentle. It makes me zoom out from my day to day and think about life as a whole.
