It takes courage to continue your life after a tragedy. It is some serious tragedies you witness in this movie - things that make you feel so sad just watching. At first it just felt like a movie without any joyful emotions, but slowly, the depressing and dark athmosphere in the movie made sense. Life brings many sorrows, and this movie is really all about a family (uncle and nephew), that tries to move on, the best they can, after their own personal losses.
Casey Affleck is doing an amazing job, as his character undergoes so many huge emotions, without letting them define him in any way. All the other actors were also great, especially Michelle Williams - incredible performance!
The music and lighting was beautiful, and so was many of the scenes. I liked the small flashbacks, that occasionally broke a scene - I had not seen that kind of clipping before. But in the end, this movie is all about feelings and losses, in a very slow pace. It is good and honest, but it can be a little too depressing for my taste, and the story can at times feel very ordinary.
