I want to say this is my favorite horror film of 2014 but I haven't really seen anything else horror related this year...
This is the best horror film of 2014.
Of course, at the same time this may not really be one at all. Even seeing it as a drama that uses metaphorical horror to portray emotions, it's still one of the best of the year in that regard.
Either way, it's a very effective look at grief and the power that it can have over us. Sure it's a little on the nose a few times, but it more than makes up for it with some incredible practical effects and one creepy soundtrack.
Also, here's a list:
Jack Nicholson in The Shining
Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs
Essie Davis in The Babadook
Not even exaggerating.
It's all over VOD right now, but if there's a theater near you that is playing it, I completely recommend seeing it there.
Sit at home. At night. No distractions. Watch this film. Now try to sleep. Have fun!
