Cosmopolis ★★★★

feels more from the era of Videodrome and The Naked Lunch than any of his later character dramas, but the 15 year gap has left its mark. the pervasiveness of technology has a different, colder vibe - instead of melding with the flesh it represents the detachment of the flesh. computers are dead. the word computer sounds backwards and dumb. progress is not a monster threatening to consume, it is a higher order that has left us behind, floundering for meaning in its wake. endless words but nothing is said. constant longing for experience with no satisfaction. a lust for violence without reason or motivation. a city full of desperate empty people who want to be saved. no one can save you
