    a decently solid war film. visually crisp and pleasing to look at. it gets the job done in telling its story. it offers up some nice insight on morality and courage. it'll probably be shown in film classes.

    i have yet to see a film about wwii in the pacific that displays sensitivity in its portrayals of japanese soldiers. the nature of the japanese military in wwii is hard for american filmmakers to portray and equally hard for americans audiences…

    this film doesn't feel like star wars but that somehow makes it feel even more like star wars. it relies more on atmosphere and plot than characters, which is a disappointment because if the characters had been more fleshed out it would have been twice as compelling.

    you know this is science fiction when the professor actually knows how to turn on the tv on the first try

    surprisingly emotional and lacking the energy of discovery that similar scifi films tend to have. misses out on fleshing out technical aspects of the theme but is compelling nonetheless and a very sound scifi venture in the vein of interstellar.
