Part of Vprento’s Top 150 Movies of All-Time
Vprento’s 2014 Movies: Best to Worst
Part of Vprento’s Directors Ranked: David Fincher
Before writing this review, I googled "synonym for amazing". That should tell you how much I loved this movie. I mean, WOW! I knew that this was going to be good, but I never thought it was going to be this good!
David Fincher is a genius! Everything he touches turns to gold. Gone Girl is a mystery movie based on a highly-acclaimed novel written by Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the screenplay. The writing is really exceptional here.
The story is phenomenal, full of twists and turns which I never expected. It constantly throws curve-balls at you, which leave you in awe. Don't read anything that will give away parts of the story, for your own good. It really is incredible.
The cinematography and the soundtrack are incredible. The atmosphere of the movie is fantastic.
The acting is on a whole another level. Neil Patrick Harris felt a bit miscast, but that was not a big problem. Ben Affleck is brilliant here, one of his better performances. Even Tyler Perry is great here. I have no idea why he does shitty movies. He showed me that he has real talent here. I hope he does something similar in the future. Everybody I mentioned was great, but Rosamund Pike was out of this world. She gave a fascinating performance, definitely the best performance of 2014 so far, and in my top 50 of all-time. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go into detail about her performance.
The movie is 150 minutes long, but time flies when you watch this. The pacing is flawless. At times, it's really funny, like that scene with the gummy bears. In some scenes it's scary, it's crazy, it's deranged, but most of all, it's utterly fascinating. I cannot properly describe how great this movie is. David Fincher is one of the best movie directors of all-time. Do yourself a favor and watch this as soon as you can.
Also, can you recommend me any movies similar to this? I would be very thankful.
