Southern Comfort ★★★½

Mostly covered it in the intro to this write-up of what Walter Hill said at the Q&A immediately afterwards. Images are cut to the bone, as if to avoid the possibility of ostentatious beauty, but it's still a pretty gorgeous movie. Walter Hill on race relations in a pre-48 Hours nutshell, via reluctant black Louisiana guard member Pfc. Cribbs (T.K. Carter), on learning that his fellow troopers are walking away from him because they think black people are bad luck: "Shit, they might be right. I've been hanging around niggers my whole life and I haven't gotten a break yet."
