impressive as his 2nd, i’m glad i watched it, but i realize i’m not compelled by films about sexual violence by male directors. it’s not that bong joon-ho was disrespectful or mysoginist or anything close to that - but so many of these movies, whether you have a quality director like him or fincher, or an outright bad one, everything feels predictable, it’s all been done before, with the same characters being uplifted and the same (voiceless) characters (in many senses) being tragically buried.

it’s excellent, i cheered when james hong rolled out. at some points i think i was too tired for how fast the pace was but reflecting on it i wouldn’t change a thing, it was a well oiled machine that did everything right, was extremely novel, and nothing fell flat. it feels boring to not like this movie, and i think any fun action movie with nonwhite leads is vulnerable in the west…
