One of the highlights of the last two X-Men film are the nearly identical scenes of Quicksilver's balletic, slowed-down heroics. Those scenes exude a sly joy that perfectly suits this version of the character and would have enthralled me as a child.
Logan has a scene that's nearly a mirror image of those scenes. Fraught and desperate, parsing the wish-fulfillment fantasy of superpowers with mature frankness as it shows a central character losing control of his gift rather than reveling in it. It's wonderfully apt and wrenching and sums up the strength of this movie- thoughtful, beautifully done and completely unlike any other superhero movie.
