Not the finest slasher movie I've ever seen, but it works. The kills, aside from being kind of underwhelming and all shoved in the first third, are sort of undercut by the fact that none of the victims actually act like they want to be alive. That being said, Cameron Mitchell is worth the price of admission alone. Out of the two Ghibli movies I've seen that I outright think are bad, this one is definitely more disappointing. Belfast 2021
Why was this in black and white? It adds literally nothing; no scene is designed or lit or shot in such a way as to take advantage of it - no harsh shadows, no strong contrasts that you can make from only having black and white. The shot composition is nice and I'm not going to pretend like the movie isn't often pretty, but it literally just looks like a regular movie that somebody slapped a B&W filter over the top of. It's also not very good, but that's another story.
