2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey ★★★★★

All that ended up happening was 9/11 :/

YO I liked that so much more than I thought I would. It was definitely a slow burn, but I can't say I was ever bored. Kubrick always left a little bit of mystery in every scene to keep those paying attention intrigued. Even when there was nothing going on, the music would let you know you should be worried, you just didn't know what yet. The music killed, there were parts of this where the visuals came as an accompaniment to the orchestral music, like a space Fantasia or something. I'd say the music made the movie IF the movie didn't make the movie, cuz I loved this movie. Surprisingly flew by for me. I have no. clue. how this movie was made in the 60s, I find it almost unbelievable, cuz DAmn. THIS. MOVIE. LOOKS. AMAZING. The shots and color and lighting and the cool rotating setpieces and the spinning camerawork and IDK HOW THEY MADE ALL THIS SPACE LOOK SO GOOD. MINIATURES? GREEN SCREEN? CGI? COULD THEY EVEN USE CGI? HOW'D THEY DO THAT BABY? This movie had no RIGHT looking this good, absolutely one of the best made movies ever, EVER. Even if you don't enjoy the movie, which is perfectly understandable, it's definitely an art piece, you HAVE to appreciate the talent and craftsmanship that went in to making it. For me, it made my feelings toward this movie do a complete 180, I'm absolutely speechless (well, clearly not), Kubrick is a madman and a genius. Even the last 20 or so minutes, when it went full artsy, i was just entranced. I'm glad that I went into this movie expecting it to be unconventional (otherwise I would have been extremely put off and maybe bored), and I'm especially glad that I watched it alone. Imma say it. Mastapeece.
