• Brigsby Bear

    Brigsby Bear

    ★★★

probably the best movie of its type, just because every single other movie that's like this is just so forced and unrealistic, but I guess the main character (and, you know, his actions,) felt natural and real

one thing you might notice when watching it is how "accelerated" the time is, and what I mean by that is something might take a few weeks or a few months to happen, but in Brigsby Bear these events conveniently happen within the…

  • Ingrid Goes West

    Ingrid Goes West

    ★★

    so much wasted potential

we get mentally ill and stalker characters, some sensory overload editing for social media segments, a decent concept, a good roster of actors, all of these great things and the movie fucks it all up and gives a subpar movie.

you can see the great things they were trying to do, then you see the underwhelming delivery of it all. I have to complain about it in every movie, but I hated the situational music of…

  • Ruby Sparks

    Ruby Sparks

wish I had more words to talk about how fucking stupid this movie was, how annoying every character is, I just downloaded this movie because I saw a romantic quote from it that I liked

(light plot details below that are probably in the trailer, no spoilers)

I get that not every movie has to have realism, but it doesn't help when the lead actor and actress act like the autistic guy from my US History class from high school…

  • A Ghost Story

    A Ghost Story

    ★★

more like A Shit Story lmfao

I don't really give a fuck about Casey Affleck, I just told me friend "oh, I really want to see this, this has Casey Affleck!!", while what drew me into watching this was the somber tone and the design of the main character

it starts off severely boring, then it gets okay. or maybe it just seems relatively okay compared to the first two acts, where there is not a lot of dialogue so…

  • Dunkirk

    Dunkirk

    ★★

loved the music by Hans Zimmer, but it made scenes that weren't exciting feel way too long and unnecessary

what can be said about Dunkirk? it's a fucking Nolan film, there were parts that were exciting, there were bullshit moral subplots that deal with sacrifice vs preservation, retarded one-liners, and tons of confusing editing that makes you wonder what's going on, especially when the chronology of things was all fucky

  • Lion

    Lion

    ★★

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

    boy gets lost
    grows up
    tries to find home
    uses Google
    finds home
    goes home

what a lame fucking story, we need to cool it with this "Based on a true story" bullshit because real life is a lot less interesting and uses less creativity and effort than an original screenplay or at least an adaptation from something other than true events, like instead of watching a 2 hour movie I'd rather learn about this story through a BuzzFeed slideshow with a pepperoni pizza in front of me thinking that I should be studying for my Differential Equations exam instead

  • The Edge of Seventeen

    The Edge of Seventeen

    ★★½

mandatory "I'm not like the other girls" joke

this is what happens when kids don't get "La Chancla" or the belt. this doesn't really break the mold in terms of plot, and the big plot points are fairly predictable. somehow simultaneously, the plot was kind of a mess and didn't focus on one thing throughout the movie. you think, "oh the movie is going all over the place so it's unpredictable and not like the trailer", until that lame ending…

  • Other People

    Other People

    ★★★½

starts off explosively funny, like, you'd like it if you're an introvert who quietly holds contempt for everyone in social situations and misuses the term "antisocial" to describe yourself. like, seriously just does a great job at showing how fucking weird normal people are. the editing is great, each "cut away" makes the previous (joke?) twice as funny

then... it just turns into an emotional drama thing. and I don't mean to say that to, uh, dismiss it, because I…

  • American Honey

    American Honey

    ★½

never have I seen such a fucking zero-dimensional character

what's cool about American Honey is that it shows you some characters and settings that you won't see elsewhere, and you haven't seen since you saw them hanging around the gas station by your school smoking menthols. the characters aren't bad, alright? maybe they are, I really can't tell, because by the end of the movie, I was just comparing other characters to the dumb bitch that the director decided the…

  • Arrival

    Arrival

    ★★½

    there was an anonymous mask

plot aside, this movie was REALLY good
especially with the intro and closing scenes, I loved the shots, lighting, score, audio, whatever. a bunch of very unique ideas for aliens and what some advanced aliens would be like are shown, and these original aspects are pretty interesting for 5 minutes.

one interesting thing to note about this movie is that there is no plot. the main character learns something about the alien, and the audience…

  • The Shallows

    The Shallows

    ½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

just put Spoilers on this review because itr's bad but I still had some thoughts on them

you know what's BUUUUUUUUULLSHIT? (lil AVGN/Cinemassacre reference)

let's start off with what doesn't really matter, the soundtrack. popular electronic, it's dubstep and a song by Sia, if you like it more power to you. bad special effects. moving on

the dialogue was awful. dialogue content aside, most of the time she won't be talking to anyone else, she'll just be talking and throwing…

  • Comet

    Comet

    ★★★★

    better than Blue Valentine

not sure how I didn't hear about this movie back in 2014, but I'm so glad I saw it. there's some kind of funny/annoying dialogue in the beginning, and then the dialogue just gets beautiful at the end. Sam Esmail is great at making the audience feel the mood he wants them to

besides the fantastic ending, what really sold me on this was how well the music complemented the amazing shots

if you do end up watching it please take better screenshots than the ones on Google Images, thank you.
