A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place ★★★★½

I love it when an actor puts himself and his vision on screen and succeeds. Actor John Krasinski stars as the dad, co-writes and directs with great confidence, creating an apocalyptic world where sound can cost you your life. Because there's a plague of creatures that look like those bugs from Starship Troopers and Predator had a kid. Fierce creatures that hunt via sound. Krasinski brings on his real life wife Emily Blunt into the stew. She's the mom, trying to keep it together with the kids and a new baby on the way. The use of sound and silence is shit inducing scary. I was not relaxed for a minute. Marco Beltrami's score is brilliant. Raising pulses like a bastard. It's got a brilliant opening shot and closes with another equally brilliant scene. In between a ton of scary moments, emotional moments that makes this film one of the best horror movies of the year. Also, you can choose to nitpick all you want. "Why didn't they do this or that or the other thing " Fine. Do that then quietly go suck some donkey balls. Sssshhhh...
