Waldo’s review published on Letterboxd:
A wild, hard edged crime comedy from Paul Schrader. Looks like a film with the energy of a Tarantino inspired 20 something but when you hear and watch this motherfucker you know it's a 40 year plus experienced screenwriter/director having a blast from an Ed Bunker novel! Nothing glamorous or cool about this crooks, theyre funny but theyre not trying to be. Willem Dafoe is Mad Dog, his opening scene on this movie is one of the most savage things I've seen lately. Nic Cage reunites with Schrader and does the good one after their last bad one. It's about a trio of criminals just planning jobs and being their worst scumbag selves. Even Schrader writes a nice little role for himself here. A brutal fun time.
