    Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins, the last time these two paired up they created my favourite war film (and one of my favourite films of all time): Jarhead.

    My anticipation for this commemorative picture from Mendes to his great grandfather was immeasurable, I’ve been hyping this up for months. And as a whole it was fantastic.

    Ari Aster has just taken me on some serious trip.

    Tackling loss, pain, fear, anxiety and so much more, this film (similar to Hereditary) pulls your deepest fears from within you and lays them in front of you.

    By having the audience experience what the characters experience, through fantastic directing, we get caught up in a horrible world. I felt trapped in the cinema, like I was really there.

    3/5 may seem a little harsh, but for a film that purposely alienates it's audience, it isn't too bad.

    I feel Nolan is the most self absorbed director, making an overly complex film that I feel he forgot to pay attention to the sound and feel of the film. Because, wow, that shit was deafening. Like, so loud it was distracting.

    But the issues are, we have a story that has little to no emotional connection, is overly complex, and…
