Sound of Metal

Sound of Metal ★★★½

Pretty good drama by Marder which is also co-written by Cianfrance (would it be him or Marder to come up with the idea to dye the main characters hair blonde just like in The Place Beyond the Pines?). It’s an poignant arc our main character goes through, from denying and having false hope to slowly accepting his fate and making the best out of it. Only the third act is a bit weaker and the ending is somehow predictable, but it’s still compromised by the haunting sound design and an utterly beautiful dialogue between Ruben and Joe which all make for an intense drama.

Another thing: this movie made me grateful that my hearing (and other senses) still work well as how they should work. It seems obvious to have them working correctly everyday, but it actually isn’t. Something to appreciate.
