Really one of a kind. It is totally bonkers in its vision and sense of tone, and tends to fly in a fistfuls of directions without refinement or cohesion. But the strength of the film lies in its vision , of delicacy and institutions, colour and flesh, as the tale of the unmaking of a girl and remaking as woman of the state. The melancholy ambience works well, it is less a historical biofilm than it is a somber and introspective meditation on change. File it as underrated.
