    ★★★½

I like to watch this movie from the perspective that the babadook is a complete fiction of this crazy woman's imagination as she can no longer cope with the death of her husband, and she's just horribly abusive and neglectful towards her child. Makes the movie a lot more interesting.

Also, The Babadook is a groundbreaking moment in film history, being the first non-explicitly LGBTQ branded movie to ever be called gay by a computer algorithm.

First I watched this movie from start to finish. Then I watched each scene again, from finish to start; and marvelled at the perfect linkages between and across each scene. Bong Joon Ho must have some thing for linearity and linear story telling: this was manifested directly in Snowpiercer, by the structure of the train dictating the functions of the story, and more subtly here by the structure of the family and the one-by-one nature of the con. Sick.

"I want to make a movie that will make boys hard, and will make girls cry!" says Gaspar Noe through his male protagonist. Shout out to you if this movie elicited both.

I really like Love. It's a very bleak and accurate depiction of an emotionally abusive and codependent relationship between a narcissistic, emotionally unavailable and stunted young man, and an emotionally unstable, depressed young woman. You can guess which one I was.
