Frances Ha

Frances Ha ★★★★½

Greta is so good. Frances Ha absolutely nails the twentysomething confusion and ambivalence about the future — do you swallow your pride and take opportunities that are inferior to your dreams, or keep pursuing something that might be unrealistic? Frances toes the line between these options, and her mistakes are understandable but heartbreaking to witness — but her small victories are triumphant, too. Frances Ha also features one of the most realistic depictions of good friends undramatically drifting apart. As is typical with Gerwig, there’s lots of wisdom and tenderness tucked inside tiny moments.
