Harrison Wade’s review published on Letterboxd:
What can I write about Pialat? His characters are full of eruptions and fits, choices that could, at times, be considered mistakes, but are only kinds of vectors. Things happen. Any prescriptive judgement, about men or sex or violence, seem to move too far from the images. The frame is close on Nelly and Loulou. Ellipsis keeps the events from turning into a chain of cause and effect. Focus moves me back to the lovers, off screen space makes them visible to others, and an eager, handheld camera picks up some of the energy they leave behind. Depardieu and Huppert burn together, and it's warm to see some of ensemble from Graduate First here, too.
