Oh man what a flick. In his niche role, Jeff Bridges is absolutely incredible; that "boozy, down-on-his-luck albeit incredibly good at what he does southern guy" role, ala Bad Blake in Crazy Heart. Hailee Steinfield's dialogue as Mattie Ross seemed a bit intelligent given the era and the fact that she's a farm girl, but she did a fantastic job as well. And Matt Damon was great, as usual. All in all, a superbly acted film; wish I would have watched it sooner.
The performance by Casey Affleck was just amazing in this one. A story about tragedy, grief, guilt, and the inability (and/or unwillingness) to let go and move on. Affleck's character was just.. REAL. It was almost like it wasn't a movie at all, but instead you're watching a real person in a real situation act as a real person does. Just an incredible story and superb acting (not only with Affleck) throughout. 5 stars!
It's finally here! A movie where you can watch Vince Vaughan beat up a car with his bare hands, kind of like the Street Fighter 2 bonus point "quick" scene. I liked this movie a lot because it fits nicely into two of my favourite sub-genres: prison movies and movies with ridiculously vulgar violence scenes. Written and directed by the same dude who did Bone Tomahawk (S. Craig Zahler), it's not really for the faint of heart or those looking…
