Jojo Rabbit

Jojo Rabbit ★★★★½

Merry Christmas to me. Such a profound and interesting journey of a film. Finding the right moments to provide such tender humour but cleverly delicating them into sequences that left more floored. This comes from the beautiful patience of Taika Waititi’s maturity in his writing and directing - that good in fact that I almost felt the need to look away and bring myself back together. But the real heroes here are Roman Griffin Davis & Thomasin McKenzie. We should seriously be talking about them regards to the Oscar nominations... they both took control of every sense of emotion in every scene that they eat up. You could always feel the innocence always trying to crawl from within Jojo, hoping to see that light with every plea for recognition. There is is sense of fascination surrounding this creation - a film that should never really work in terms of story and themes... and yet Taika manifests a strong balance with risks that obey the films philosophy. Hitting every note with an orchestrated fashion.

Calling this now - Jojo Rabbit will win the bets picture at the 2020 Oscars.
