What happens when even our final frontier is hopeless?
High Life is going to be a movie I sit on for a long time, for all the wrong reasons with right intentions, scene after scene taking place in a world so colorful yet dreary in the same instance, a world where the powerless become either the overpowered or sink further into their role on Earth. And in the midst of it all, could any autonomy do anything other than delay the inevitable?
The idea of individuals condemned to death having their path in life flipped wildly yet still marching towards the same end is wretched, and this film captures it in all of its absurdity and primal panic, while still feeling fully human throughout.
