Learned of this a few years ago and did my best to avoid any more info on it than that initial encounter. I watched a couple Tarkovsky films before to have an understanding of his style going in. Mostly just the average marvel movie. Every once in a while Sam Raimi’s style pops out, whether in the camera work (some of the coolest shots in MCU), his comical nature, or proclivity for the horror/zombie genre, but for the most part the normal level of quality. Also much lower stakes than expected.
The highs in this movie are soooo much higher than I remember, but the problem is the lows are also much lower. When I first watched this my main takeaway as an inexperienced movie watcher was that there were too many boring moments. This time I was never even a bit bored. This is the best Batman movie. Dark knight is the best joker movie and may be a better overall movie (much closer than you’d expect) but this is the best Batman movie.
