  • Magnus

Magnus Carlson is a chess prodigy and the current world champion. I most definitely don't understand the ranking system, but Magnus is listed as the highest ranking chess player of all time:

This documentary is fantastic. It starts with home movies of a young Magnus. He's, um, a little different. (ha) And then it continues on to track Magnus' life playing chess as a teenager and then an adult. The analysis of Magnus' approach to chess is really interesting.…

    The Stand

Love the book. Like the movie. Typical.

The good: The cast! Gary Sinise, Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, and many more. And the BIG Stephen King story is fun.

The bad: It looks like a junior high production. I don't know what the budget for this show was, but there are lots of unintentionally funny scenes.

If you haven't read the book, your rating will likely be lower. (ha) Solution: Read the book.
    A good movie.

    Mission: Impossible - Fallout

This is a fantastic action-packed movie. I saw it at the iMax. There are more breath-taking scenes than I can count. Tom Cruise is amazing.

Negatives: silly plot, tired characters, a little long.
The negatives are tiny, however. And happy surprise: there's a surprising amount of humor in this MI movie as well. Great movie!
