As a high tech (for its time) cat and mouse thriller it is serviceable if unfocused. As a potential commentary on government surveillance and overreach, it is sorely lacking, really only looking at surface level issues. And that’s fine… just not very compelling.

Top Gun: Maverick 2022
Fun, technically brilliant crowd pleaser that hits all the expected notes. Reports that it is better than the original are insane. It’s by the book, lacks ANY sexual energy (hetero or homosexual), and feels far too polished. It’s hard to follow up Tony Scott’s slightly unearthly sheen. The last thirty minutes is particularly dumb and absurd but hey… I’d be lying if I didn’t say I had fun.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 2022
Recording a pod on this as I type this.
If you like/love Army of Darkness, you will like/love this. This is pure Raimi AND pure Marvel. The two creative forces meet and coexist perfectly.

The Matrix Resurrections 2021
The first twenty minutes of this is fantastic. Truly. It is essentially Wes Craven’s New Nightmare and since I think that film is a god damn masterpiece, I was READY for Resurrections to simply blow my mind.
Alas, just like with the ok-Reloaded and the terrible Revolutions, Resurrections spends way too much time both over explaining everything and traveling so far up its own ass that you wonder how the hell Warner Bros was convinced to make a third sequel…
