While "Ma" doesn't exactly shy away from expected genre tropes, Octavia Spencer's delightfully twisted performance and some solid thrills really contribute in making this one considerably entertaining if campy thrill ride at the movies. Spencer is clearly having a ball with this role, completely selling it and is exactly the reason it ultimately works. The rest of the cast is actually also pretty solid as well, while the kids are basically written as stereotypes, and make some moronic decisions, I definitely bought into their dynamic and they honestly didn't annoy me nearly as much as I thought they would. Diana Silvers is definitely one to look out for.
