Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ★★★★

This won't ever match the first film's sense of wonder & adventure for me, but honestly it's a lot better than I recall and than has been given credit over the years. Yes it's definitely bloated in both its narrative & length which is felt, but a lot of the set pieces & VFX work are seriously so great here, Gore Verbinski definitely up the scale for the better in that regard. And the character work is still pretty great here too, while this was the beginning of turning the Jack Sparrow character into a one trick phony, Depp's comedic timing is still pretty great while still maintains the qualities that made him such a memorable character to begin with and Bill Nighy is just so great as Davy Jones. It still maintains a lot of what made the first film so good in the first place and is an all around satisfying sequel, setting the stage up for the conclusion. Plus that Hans Zimmer score and Keira Knightley kicking more ass this time around 😍!
