Wrath of Man

Wrath of Man ★★★★

"Wrath of Man" really surprised me in how it's really not what I exactly expected from a traditional Jason Statham & Guy Ritchie team-up. It certainly contains many of the elements including the non-linear structure and of course relentless action I've come to expect from the pair, but it's definitely a darker, more personal film and even at times is a bit of a slow burn, all of which really worked for me personally. Statham isn't necessarily doing anything he hasn't done before, but he's as reliable as he's ever been and continues to prove to be easily one of the most consistently engaging action stars we have working today, it's one of his best performances I think overall. The rest of the cast from Jeffrey Donovan, Holt McCallany, Josh Hartnett, Andy Garcia, and even Scott Eastwood are solid too. The story isn't without its familiarity or predictability, but it definitely went in several directions I didn't quite expect and kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. It definitely lags a little bit in that middle act, but then Richie brings it home strongly with such a tense finale. Really dug this!
