Promising Young Woman is a challenging film. It’s intended message isn’t the challenge (if you somehow believe that rape culture isn’t very real and in need of immediate bulldozing, you’re the delusional and horrific threat that this film has in the crosshairs), but it’s the way that some of those messages are delivered that ranges between delicately and intelligently to hamfisted and reckless.
Emerald Fennell clearly has the best intentions here, something that’s immediately evident…
