There's nothing worse than watching a movie I keep hearing really great things about and not liking it. I really wanted to like it, and after enjoying Burn After Reading, I had high hopes for it, but... nope.
I enjoy dark humor and satire, but you have to be clever about it. I don't enjoy movies about stupid people doing stupid, horrible things for no real reason.
The Dude is a loser. The movie has no women in it who aren't set pieces. It maybe has no actual, three-dimensional characters in it at all.
It had a couple funny lines. It made me cringe a lot. There was weirdly unexamined casual racism, sexism, and homophobia. The plot was all over the place. The ending bummed me out.
I dunno, man. I think I've never really understood the appeal of farces.
Trainspotting was a better version of this entire movie.
