El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

    ★★★

it felt like an unnecessary extension of 5 really well-made seasons; the ending should be left untold anyways and this also did not provide much new details, so i probably prefer the pace of the 1-hr episodes

suddenly craved for a western today
and the conclusion i have for westerns is that, you die so easily, so unexpectedly...

i'd like a portal into charlie kaufman's brain to see where he get all these crazy ideas from

beyond words. this movie is essentially the base model of eternal sunshine and just frigging cray. what's with everyone's obsession with malkovich???

(looked this up because i was googling who got the oscars for best actor in 1997 after watching leo in titanic)

jack nicholson is genius at portraying these outcast characters! also a good portrayal of OCD and how it affects daily life and human interaction, but it was cute to see melvin trying hard to make it work. loved how the three main characters each had their problems, but through their friendship they supported each other. made me rethink about love languages - people aren't trying to be mean but it's just mostly a mismatch in love language maybe??

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

i've been putting it off for long enough because i was afraid that it'd be another cliched romance film, and also that i'd be broken by it. on top of the love line, it was actually a story about humanity, class and privilege. it's amazing how they showed all that story on the ship. they built this magnificent set then to destroy it totally lol sure made full use of the set.

i also loved the interactions between jack and…

    The Big Lebowski

rewatch bc it's back on netflix!

it was less about Dudeism than i remembered from my last watch, but damn i love how they're talking about pacifists, nihilists, semites, outcasts, artists, the rich, the homeless etc. and all of that bunch accurately represented in one coherent story. but yea, life is all about random shit striking at inappropriate times, and you just gotta roll with it. or better, "fuck it, man"

    fave quote:

    Uncut Gems

a lot is happening but i felt like the music was what was trying to create that urgency that lacked in the story itself (as compared to Good Time). highly stressful to watch a Safdie brothers film, but they always manage to weave their storyline around what their main character goes through.

i loved loved the scenes where they are talking through the door - GENIUS

and who would've thought The Weeknd would appear in a film alongside with Adam Sandler

maybe because i watched it back-to-back with Who's the Man, Who's the Woman, there were definitely some parallels in the setting which made me enjoy it not as much. it wasn't as impressive as the latter where i thought the story was better, jokes funnier, performance better.
i also didn't really laugh at any lines...
but yea carina lau is the famous singer ex who gets along with all her exes and can meet over tea to laugh over their failed relationship

    such a bittersweet rom-com ;_;
i love the chemistry between leslie and muijeh as always, their yin-yang combo is very intriguing to watch. and this is the best anita yuen's performances i've ever watched - very refreshing. amazing songs.

i wish i'd have this childishness (傻氣?) in me forever and a partner that finds this trait refreshing (sorry for the lack of a better word)

  • A Simple Life

    A Simple Life

    ★★★½

i kind of didn't expect the plot to be like this; but i guess there is only so much that we can do? 桃姐一生勞碌照顧roger一家,卻是他們最熟悉的陌生人。說到底,頂多可以上契,家人始終談不上。

disguising urban alienation and search for meaning of life with "getting rid of filth and scam" and getting away with killing for fun!

loved the soundtrack esp jazz main theme, and the last shot omg i wish i could be in it forever
