Bloodlight and Bami is commendably intimate. I love seeing her human life: running a recording session, yelling at venue managers, going to church revivals with her mom. But these things are always overlong and there's no point-of-view here. It feels like we were granted access but then didn't know what to do with it, so we're relegated to the "fly on the wall" with overwhelmingly uninteresting results. And on top of that, it's just not well made. The cinematography is a let down. We see several concert performances, but all of them are shot in a master and maybe two other setups if we're lucky. That sucks because the aesthetics of these shows look stellar. I think Grace Jones deserves better.
