Maniac Cop

Maniac Cop ★★★

“They don't make cops like him anymore”

Whilst not actually related, it feels reasonable for this film to have a similar title to William Lustig’s Maniac because they both bathe in the same kind of ultra-sleaze, though this film takes a fitting theme of police. Sure there’s technical issues, but there’s a grimy style to the traditional slasher-murders outweighing those issues. There’s some interesting looks into the police force, though some of the focus—like Bruce Campbell’s love-life—feels misplaces. A thin plot and stilted characters makes for some issues in the film, but Maniac Cop is a worthy follow-up to Maniac with a suffocating, unpleasant dirt and style.
