As a way to do something special for the students before they go on a break for a week, we took to the big concert hall in the school and made them watch this dated 90s-romance. Though to be honest, for a Swedish film in the 90s with very hamfisted moral messages about racism and peer-pressure, this isn’t quite as bad as expected. The musical score is pretty solid and the film has a consistently funny tone (the biggest highlight for me was to see which jokes resonated with the students and which didn’t). Ultimately it’s not enough; the script may be sincere and the actors does their best, but the film juggles too many themes and tones to ever come off as something sharp.
