This instilled itself at an early age in me as maybe the first smart and complex drama I ever watched amongst the rise of blockbusters with a lot less to offer and even if a little more flawed upon scrutiny not much has changed as to how I feel about it, so yes, while no longer my favorite film, this is still an exhilarating favorite. The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society 2018
While visually competent, everything else in the film is a trifecta of predictable, melodramatic and uncompelling. That which concerns itself with war is underplayed and that which concerns itself with grumbling peculiarities of the central cast is, well...the entire film.
