As a nostalgia trip with a couple of good moments, it is totally worth watching. It’s not earth-shattering, but that was also not what I expected.
“Score” is really good but has its flaws. For example, there is no look at scores that did not work or a comparison between two possible or proposed scores with a description of why it worked and was picked. Also, there are almost no women composers/producers or directors pictured. Now I know that Hollywood is male-dominated, but I think there was space to feature up-and-coming women composers.
Really good movie, the resolution – while taking a good amount of screen time – feels a bit rushed in the end. I could easily have done without the romantic undertones. They were subtle and OK, but I personally think the movie would have been as good or better if they hadn't been in there. (I see it mostly as additional fluff in movies of this type anyway.)
Oh, also, why do women in those movies always have perfect make-up?
